Our NEXT MEETING OF THE ECA IS OUR MEMBER PLANT SALE!!! IMPORTANT!!!!
Please note that our April Meeting is Thursday, April 12th at Seattle Police Athletic Association. For directions, please click on the ABOUT ECA tab above. We are now meeting in the North Class Room. This meeting is important as we prepare final details for our Annual Plant sale on Saturday, April 14th. Please bring plants to the April 12th meeting for sale to members. Please note that NOVICES have first preference for plants – Novices please have your coaches help you select plants. Members are reminded to bring in their extra plants for our member plant sale and the public sale. Only healthy looking plants are accepted for the “Sales Events”. For those bringing in plants, please also bring in newspaper or a cloth to cover the table if your plants are in an open bottom carrier. This will help the clean up crew when tidying at the end of the meeting.
A huge THANK YOU to our tireless & more prolific growers who have been providing so many plants for so many years to benefit our club. This is how we fund our activites.

Club Library/Publications Notices Notes
Mark Ross is our Club Librarian. We have a limited collection of excellent reference books and the goal is for Members to take books out for one month only. Thereby we can give as many growers as possible a chance to read and learn from the experiences and knowledge of other growers.

Minutes from March meeting:
March 2018 ECA Meeting Minutes
Meeting Called to order at 7:04 pm
Cultural presentation: Continue taking cuttings through March.
Start gathering growing supplies:
Soil discussion: M&R mix ($7.50/bag) has been the standard ECA potting medium for a number of years. A discussion ensued regarding different soils that members are using. Soil mediums being used by the club members include – professional greenhouse mix, Ocean Forest coconut fiber (does not break down as fast as peat moss), Sunshine 4, garden & gardeners bloom
Steve Joyner reported that Dave Helgeson of VPC recommends potting medium -sunshine 4; Fungicide – Strike; Rooting compound – Woods concentrate
B-9 – a good growth retardant to help plant from getting too leggy. Do not use B9 on plants that tend to naturally grow short- for example – all the Fairweather’s, all the Alexis, Port Stanley
Prepare 4 inch pots for potting up:
Clean clay pots in a very diluted bleach solution (1 teaspoon bleach per gallon of water) or an antibacterial dish soap to kill fungus. If using a bleach solution be sure to rinse pots in water bath after the bleach solution
Once plants are in 4 inch pots they can be moved from the greenhouse to a cold frame to harden them. Don’t leave new start out side overnight without protection.
Start developing your growing plan. Encourage new members to grow 14’s and 15’s, 3’s, 4’s or 5’s – Early English or late decorative plants for greatest satisfaction.
Break for member plant sale perusing and purchasing.
